There are 2 task maps, each with 8 different independent tasks to go along with the novel, The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. This book is in the grey book band. Task maps are based on Bloom’s questions and as such the questions/tasks are split into those six categories. Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo - Unit of Work

This unit of work has split up the novel into 7 sections so is designed to last 7 weeks however, this can be adapted to suit your learners. Please see the previews of the files to determine the sections of the book. The resource contains a range of challenging vocabulary, quality discussion questions and a choice of follow-up tasks for each section of the book. I have used it in my classroom following the Highland Literacy Project’s way of organising reading in the upper primary classroom. Children engage in reading 3 times per week: Session 1 - Pupils discuss the text, read the set pages independently and look up the vocabulary from the pages they have read. Session 2 - Pupils discuss the pages read with their group and the teacher. Session 3 - Pupils complete a follow-up task from the choices given to demonstrate further understanding. When I have used this, I have printed a few pages of the document to share between pupils in the reading group, with tasks completed in jotters. For example: For Week 1, Session 1 - pupils use page 1 of the document. For Week 1, Session 2 - pupils use page 2 of the document. For Week 1, Session 3 - pupils use page 2 of the document, and so on. I hope you find this resource useful, however you choose to use it!
